Hot Tub Electrical Supply

A hot tub on its way, or one that needs a new supply? Say which hot tub it is and where it will sit, and Alex can plan an electrical supply around the hot tub and your existing installation. Hot tub electrical work is available across Redhill, Nutfield, Reigate and surrounding areas of Surrey.

Planning a supply for a hot tub

Hot tubs differ, so the supply is planned around the one you have chosen. The supplier’s details for the hot tub show what it needs, and they help to plan the job before anything is quoted.

A hot tub supply has three parts. What the hot tub needs, whether the fuse box can take the new supply as it is, and the route the cable takes from the house to the hot tub. All three are checked before anything is quoted.

Hot tub electrical jobs AJS is asked for

Each one is looked at and quoted before anything is agreed.

  • A supply for a new hot tub. A suitable electrical supply planned around the hot tub and the existing installation.

  • Board work alongside the supply. If the fuse box cannot take the new supply as it is, the board work is explained and quoted first. On one AJS hot tub job an additional consumer unit was fitted.

  • Cable runs from the house. Cabling through the house and out to the garden, with the route planned with you.

  • Hot tubs alongside other garden work. A hot tub supply can be planned alongside power to a garden office, outdoor sockets or garden lighting.

Not sure what the hot tub needs? The supplier’s details and a photo of where it will sit are usually enough to start.

What decides how big the job is

The size of the job depends on what the hot tub needs, how far it sits from the house, and whether the fuse box can take the new supply as it is. Where a cable route will sit beneath paving, decking or landscaping, it is normally easier to plan that route before the finished surface goes down.

That is why the hot tub’s details, the fuse box and the route are looked at before anything is quoted. You are told plainly what is and is not included.

How a hot tub supply is planned and fitted

  • You say which hot tub it is and where it will sit. The supplier’s details and a photo of the spot help.

  • The fuse box, the route and what the hot tub needs are checked, and the supply is agreed with you.

  • If board work is needed first, it is explained and quoted before anything else.

  • The cable is run and the supply is installed as agreed.

  • Everything is tested before it is handed over, and the area is left tidy.

Where the work needs it, you get a certificate recording what was done and that it was tested.

Garden power, the fuse box and faults

Outdoor sockets, garden lighting and power to sheds, summer houses and garden offices are covered on the garden power and outdoor lighting page. It is the same electrician and it is quoted the same way.

If the fuse box needs replacing rather than adding to, that is covered on the consumer unit upgrades page, and it is only suggested when the checks show it is needed.

If the electrics trip when the hot tub is running, or when it rains, that is a fault rather than a fitting. Electrical fault finding and repairs explains how the cause is found, and the RCD guide explains why it happens.

Common questions

Does a hot tub need its own electrical supply?

That depends on the hot tub. The supplier’s details show what it needs, and the supply is planned around that and around your existing installation.

Will my fuse box need changing?

Not always. The fuse box is checked first to see whether it can take the new supply as it is. If board work is needed, it is explained and quoted before anything is agreed.

Should I get in touch before the hot tub arrives?

It helps. Knowing where the hot tub will sit and what it needs gives time to plan the cable route, especially if paving or decking is going down.

What do you need from me?

The supplier’s details for the hot tub, where it will sit, and a photo of the fuse box are usually enough to start.

Will I get a certificate?

Where the work needs one, yes. It records what was done and that it was tested.
