What to Expect When You Book an Electrician
Never used an electrician before, or had one who stopped replying, turned up late or changed the price halfway through? This page walks through how a job with AJS runs, from the first message to the finished work, so you know what happens at each step. Each step is described the way customers have described it in their reviews. AJS works across Redhill, Nutfield, Reigate and surrounding areas of Surrey.
The worry is usually the process, not the electrics
Most people are less worried about the work itself than about everything around it: whether anyone will reply, whether the price will change once the job starts, and what state the house will be left in. Those are the things this page explains.
Every AJS job follows the same order. You describe what is happening, it is looked at, you get a quote, the work is done as agreed, and it is tested before it is handed over. The work starts only once you have agreed the quote.
What happens, step by step
The steps are the same whatever the job.
You get in touch. Call, send a message, or send a photo on WhatsApp. Say what is happening or what you would like done, and roughly where you are.
The job is looked at. For some jobs a photo is enough to start. For others Alex looks at the job first, so the quote is based on what is actually there.
You get a quote. You are told plainly what is and is not included before anything is agreed.
The work is done as agreed. If something else turns up during the work, you are told about it, and it is kept separate from the job you agreed.
It is tested and handed over. Everything is tested before it is handed over, and the area is left tidy.
Not sure where to start? A short message and a photo is usually enough.
What a quote covers
A quote says what will be done, what is included and what is not. If part of a job depends on something that cannot be seen until the work starts, such as old wiring behind a wall, that is explained before you agree.
Customers often mention the price matching the quote. You are told plainly what is and is not included, so you know what you are agreeing to.
When the work is finished
Everything is tested before it is handed over.
The area is left tidy.
Where the work needs one, you get a certificate recording what was done and the test results. The electrical certificates guide explains which one.
If something new needs setting up, such as an EV charger, you are shown how it works.

Common questions
Do i need to know exactly what is wrong before i get in touch?
No. Say what is happening, in your own words. A photo of the fuse box, the socket or the area you mean helps.
Will i get a quote before any work starts?
Yes. You are told what is and is not included before anything is agreed.
What if something else turns up during the job?
You are told about it, and it is kept separate from the work you agreed.
Can i send photos instead of booking a visit?
For many jobs a photo is enough to start. Where it is not, Alex will say so and arrange to look at the job.
What are your working hours?
Monday to Saturday, 08:00 to 17:00. An emergency call-out is available outside normal working hours, and the emergency electrician page explains how it works.
Start with a message
Say what is happening or what you would like done, and roughly where you are. You can send a message and a photo on WhatsApp, or call. Every job starts the same way, whichever of the electrical services available you need.
